Gryboski, a doctor in South Yarmouth, also told police that Lancaster had physically and mentally abused her and their two sons for years... Read the rest of this Globe story here. Leave a comment _____________________________

Sound Advice: How to find an independently owned TV store

I recently spoke with the manager of my favorite CEDIA store and as we looked at his beautifully decorated showroom, divided into separate viewing areas with big comfy couches, I mentioned how much better off people would be if they went to his store rather than the big-box places. He laughed and said, "When people see all this they think it is going to cost them more to do business here than the big places, when it costs the same or less." CEDIA members usually have special financing offers available from manufacturers, and many of them are also members of Brandsource as well.

I've preached the value of independently owned retailers for years, and in writing this column it made me reflect on each major purchase. In each case I received a better deal and truly impressive service from people who own the store and make it their profession, not just an hourly job.

Travels With the Bear

The values include seeking knowledge and finding answers; thinking ahead; planning and organizing; setting and achieving goals; having the courage to try news things; appreciating those around us; having a positive attitude; and having a winning attitude by seeking out guidance and positive role models.

For example, in "Traveling Bear and the Search for Treasure," Traveling Bear and his grandparents head into a cave to search for treasure. Throughout the venture into the cave, T-Bear faces challenges that require him to sustain courage and perseverance in order to achieve the goal of reaching the treasure chest of gems.

In "Traveling Bear and the Yellow Flipper Roller Coaster," T-Bear gets a lesson in thinking ahead as he and his friends Mookie and Chuga spend a day at the Big Top Amusement Park.

Capt misusing public money: Badal

Terming Capt Amarinder Singh as a Chief Minister of the rich and affluent only, Mr Badal said there was nothing like democracy in Punjab today and the state was reeling under abject autocracy and repression.

He alleged that due to the flawed policies of the Congress, unemployment, crime and drug addiction were ruling the roost in the state today. On the possibility of an electoral alliance with the BSP or any other party, Mr Badal said his party was open to any kind of alliance with like-minded and anti-Congress parties.

Bookstore owner's life to be celebrated

A celebration of life for Carole Fewx, the deceased former co-owner of Jackson's Books, will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Grand Ballroom, 187 High St. NE, Salem.

The event is open to anyone who knew Fewx.

She died in a fall at her home and was found Feb. 18.

Fewx and Greg Millard owned Jackson's Books, which was Salem's leading independent book store, from 1985 to the end of 2006, when declining sales forced the store's closure.

Fewx and Millard organized the Oregon Reads event at the Salem Art Fair & Festival and hosted author signings, literary events and book clubs, in addition to selling books, magazines, calendars and other book-related items.

The family said donations may be made in Fewx's name to Friends of the Salem Public Library.
