How patenting protects your inventions
But beware: Brent E. Routman, an intellectual property lawyer at Merchant & Gould and also an inventor himself, warns that this one-year grace period only exists in the U.S. and Canada. Making the most of it by taking the full year for deliberation would potentially result in you losing foreign patent rights That's because the patent systems of many large, industrialized countries, including a number of European nations, have "absolute novelty" laws. Once the idea enters the public realm in any way - which can include any communication not covered by a non-disclosure agreement - it is no longer considered a new invention and therefore cannot benefit from patent protection in those countries. .
Restoring public trust may be behind rush for a new oil tax
It's about the Legislature regaining the public's eroding trust, and it comes at a time when Alaska's political climate faces national scrutiny, if not ridicule. The current oil tax law comes strongly tied to federal corruption probes that have already produced two bribery convictions of former state lawmakers. The federal investigation started in Juneau with state lawmakers, but it's reached Capitol Hill, where Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, both Alaska Republicans, are under scrutiny. Rebuilding public approval starts in Juneau. "It goes beyond the state's borders," Palin said. "There needs to be some healing in this state in the political arena, and establishing a trust begins that healing." Carrying the work into another special session or delaying to Jan.
Sailing stars buoyant for Beijing
Morrison is one of the coolest of the cool. He's a European and former world champion, and a hot tip to win Olympic gold for Britain in Beijing this summer. The 29-year-old and his crew Ben Rhodes, 26, were pipped to a second world title in Melbourne this month, but they are more focused on becoming Olympic champions in August. The 49er they sail is a powerful 16ft dinghy which can skitter at up to 20 knots across the water with the boys standing on wings and suspended from trapeze wires, perched on the edge of control. "It's the coolest of the Olympic classes," Morrison told BBC Sport. "It's pretty exhilarating when you're on the trapeze, you're right out over the side and you're skimming along just hung on this little rope only a foot above the water. "It's a spectacular boat that lends itself to falling over quite easily if you don't get it quite right.

These morons running the zoo should be put out to pasture NOW. What kind of idiot GM would send his prized goalie half way across the continent and into a cesspool of a dressing room-then sit him on the bench or in the stands -then send him back. Even if he got the start, you have to be out of your mind to start him in San Jose-real good for the confidence to get blown out and stormed in the crease while the Leaf defence look on. Look at the way Gainey/Carbo are bringing along Price? IDIOTS!! . Posted 12/01/08 at 5:20 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
