So, I go to a movie Saturday night. I have some friends in Waupaca and we always meet in Stevens Point, since that's half way between us. We don't get to see each other as often as we'd like, so we do a lot of catching up. We also like to pretend we're the cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and make fun of what we see on screen, if it's bad. And we're pop culture geeks so we talk about the actors, directors, special effects, etc. On top of that, my cell phone went off. I told the caller I'd call her back.

But all of this happened BEFORE the movie, during the trailers, or previews of the upcoming films. Once the movie started we all hushed up, except for the occasional gasp. (we saw Sweeney Todd, which is really quite gross)

Still, a man sitting directly in front of me turned around at the end of the last trailer and said, "OK, let's keep the comments to ourselves now that the movie is starting." I said "Yea, we planned on it once the movie started." After hearing the exchange, the group behind us (all adults) actually made several comments about the movie during the movie.

Tire manufacturer Kumho's Bibb plant will bring jobs, impact local ...

In 1960, Samyang Tire, the predecessor of today's Kumho Tire Co., was established, and the next year it produced about 20 tires a day. By the end of the 1960s, it shipped tires to Thailand for the first time.

By the mid-1970s, the company produced one million tires a year, a record in Korea, according to the company's history. In 1983, its total output was more than 30 million tires. In 1985, the name changed to Kumho Tire, and in late 1990, its total output exceeded 100 million tires.

Other than its South Korean plants, the company has opened plants in China and Vietnam during the past 18 months. It has technical centers in Korea, England, China and in Akron, Ohio.

Kumho's U.S. headquarters in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., opened in 1975. It is home to the company's 830,000-square-foot central distribution center.

Katie Scarvey column: Happiness as a science?

In the decade of 1995 to 2005, the Danes came in at a buoyant 8.2 on a 10-point happiness scale. Tanzanians were the gloomiest, at 3.2. The U.S. came in at 7.4.

Having lived in Italy, I was surprised to find that Americans are happier than Italians (6.9), but I think the Italian postal service pretty much explains that.

Living in a cold, dark place doesn't necessarily correlate with unhappiness. Icelanders are happier than most of us, probably because of their strong social connections.

A recent study suggests that people are happiest at the beginning and end of their lives and least happy in middle age. Women are unhappiest around 40; men at 50. Good news for me. In my mid-40s, I am climbing out of the Slough of Despond. Bad news for my husband who, if the research is true, is on his way to becoming Eeyore in few years.

Ethnic tensions divide Iran

These organizations operate in the absence of Islam and its estrangement among its people. TheIslamic peoples should perform their role in confronting the conspiracies of these saboteurs. The day Islam is in control of guiding the affairs of life, these organizations*, hostile to humanity and Islam, will be obliterated. .

Obama seen as more likely to beat McCain

As far as Obama dressing in traditional Muslim garb, I don't think Americans need to fear that he is not just as pro-Israel as Bush or any of the previous American presidents. Should Hillary Clintons campaign be responsible for distributing the, 'photo,' Obama could hit back with a photo of Bill Clinton wearing a yarmulke.

Owner of pit bull found bleeding from gunshot wound claims dog

PORT ST. LUCIE — A local woman found a pit bull with a bullet wound outside her home Saturday and police are trying to find out who shot the animal, according to police officials.

The female dog named Costa was taken by Port St. Lucie Animal Control to an emergency veterinarian's office and then taken to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County, according to Officer Vanessa Moore. She was picked up by her owner Monday afternoon, according to Humane Society Director Frank Andrews.

A woman found Costa when she was taking out her trash at her home in the 2600 block of Southwest Cameo Boulevard on Saturday evening, Moore said. The dog was bleeding profusely from its wound, but had a sweet disposition and followed the woman as she walked outside.

The animal had no tag, implanted chip or identifying tattoo, Moore said.
