The U.S.-led coalition killed 14 road construction workers in airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan because of mistaken intelligence reports, Afghan officials said Wednesday. The engineers and laborers had been contracted by the U.S. military to build a road in mountainous Nuristan, and were sleeping in two tents in Nurgaram when they were killed Monday night, said Sayed Noorullah Jalili, director of the Kabul-based road construction company Amerifa. There were no survivors, he said. "All of our poor workers have been killed," Jalili said. "I don't think the Americans were targeting our people. I'm sure it's the enemy of the Afghans who gave the Americans this wrong information." Nuristan Governor Tamim Nuristani said the coalition conducted air strikes after receiving reports that "the enemy" was in the area, and hit the road construction workers as they were sleeping.
Where And Why Humans Made Skates Out Of Animal Bones
As happened later for skis and bicycles, I am convinced that we first made ice skates in order to limit the energy required for our daily journeys". Formenti and Minetti did their experiments on an ice rink by the Alps, where they measured the energy consumption of people skating on bones. Through mathematical models and computer simulations of 240 ten-kilometre journeys, their research study shows that in winter the use of bone skates would have limited the energy requirements of Finnish people by 10%. On the other hand, the advantage given by the use of skates in other North European countries would be only about 1%. Subsequent studies performed by Formenti and Minetti have shown how fast and how far people could skate in past epochs, from 3000BC to date. Plan to insure working poor stalls
John's spokeswoman Cora Scott said St. John's, along with other Missouri hospitals, will continue to work with lawmakers "to address the problem of the state's uninsured." "Because of organizations like St. John's and our mission in the community, the good news is we take care of people regardless of their insurance status," Scott said. "The problem is they end up receiving it in a fragmented way, in the most costly location the hospital emergency department. That impacts the whole community because those costs are shifted to the whole community." Through 2007, uninsured patient care in the emergency trauma center cost St. John's an extra $500,000 every month, St. John's administrators have said. As lawmakers address ways to expand coverage to low-income Missourians, Scott said, "...we will also continue to collaborate with others in the community to work on solutions that expand access to care for uninsured and working poor people." Under Blunt's initial Insure Missouri plan, coverage was expected to be available in March to working parents and caregivers with children who live at or below the poverty level $20,650 for a family of four.

Along Highway, Cubans Mull a New Castro
Like the traffic, life moves slowly along this Cuban highway. But on Sunday, word that the country had its first new president in nearly 50 years traveled fast, and encountered a range of opinions. For some residents in the towns and cities along the Carretera Central — the "Central Highway" — Raul Castro's elevation offers hope for change after decades of rule by his brother Fidel. But others favored calm and stability over any startling new approaches. The pothole-ridden highway runs east from Havana all the way to Cuba's second city, Santiago, on the extreme opposite end of the island, a journey of roughly 500 miles. Modern vehicles often have to slow down and wait for the chance to pass 1950s coupes, men on horseback, bicycles and rickshaws.

Lost your job? John Calipari can help you
With my wife, lets just say, if I didn't get a job, it would've hurt us. She was getting tired of seeing me. She said I was giving too many suggestions around the house and I needed to get a job. That's when I knew it was time to get back to it. Alipour: What's the most important step in the comeback process? .
