Utilities working to restore power in Berks County

Utilities are working to restore power in Berks County, officials said today. With ice, wind and wet ground causing trees and limbs to fall onto power lines, Met-Ed probably will need until tonight to restore electricity to all its Berks customers, said spokeswoman Marybeth Smialek. At noon there were 234 Met-Ed customers without power, mainly in the areas of Richmond, North Heidelberg and Bern townships, she said. That is fewer customers than were without power this morning, but new outages are occurring as trees and limbs come down, she said. .

NIU Students, Community Gather To Share Grief

DeKALB, Ill. (CBS) ― After the shooting spree had ended at Northern Illinois University most of the stunned, emotionally scarred students opted to leave school and head home. But some remained in DeKalb, and all through the day and night, have had several opportunities to come together and comfort one another. As CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports, there was comfort in numbers Friday night as members of the community and beyond gathered in prayer, as NIU employees worked to shine some light on this otherwise dark day. "We will get through this together," said NIU President Dr. John Peters. The murders of five students here by former grad student Stephen Kazmierczak has shaken not only current classmates, but former ones as well. Many came to the campus Friday to lay flowers at a memorial, reflect and grieve.

Growing Pains: Adapting After a Merger

This product will be 10 times bigger and more successful than it would be if we stayed alone," Mr. Heppelmann recalls thinking.

To make it work, Mr. Heppelmann had to become a cheerleader. "I needed the executive team at the acquiring company to feel like they just acquired the hottest thing ever," he says. He also met with Parametric's biggest customers to sell them on his product.

It worked. In the first six months it was owned by Parametric, Windchill recorded $11 million in revenue; last year, it generated about $340 million. Nearly all of Windchill's 20 employees have stuck with Parametric. And Mr. Heppelmann has gotten a shot at a bigger management role. He's now executive vice president and chief product officer for Parametric, which has annual revenue of about $1 billion.

Fury that lorry caused ‘standstill’

It caused mayhem for commuters during the morning rush hour with many major cross-Forth routes brought to a virtual standstill.

Traffic heading south across the bridge was also reduced to single file as the lorry had tipped over far enough to impede the opposite carriageway.

Some motorists took more than four hours to reach their destinations as tens of thousands of drivers were diverted via Kincardine and Stirling.

Helen Eadie, who represents Dunfermline East, has called on Scottish Government ministers to carry out an urgent inquiry into what went wrong.

The Labour MSP got caught up in the chaos as she headed for the Scottish Parliament and said east central Scotland had been brought to a standstill.

I left the house this morning just after 7.30 am and arrived at the Parliament shortly before 11.45 am, she told The Courier.

Delphi to Introduce Multec Electronic Fuel Injection for One- and Two ...

Delphi Multec EFI provides manufacturers an easy and convenient way to implement an electronic fuel injection system for gasoline and flexible-fuel powered engines. Designed to help manufacturers meet exhaust and evaporative emissions requirements for one- and two-cylinder engines, the system also achieves targets for engine performance and fuel consumption. Delphi Multec EFI can reduce fuel consumption in motorcycles from 10 to 15 percent.

"With Delphi Multec EFI, motorcycle manufacturers around the world can look to Delphi for the most efficient electronic fuel injection system for virtually any demand," said Ran Wu, Delphi's Multec EFI product manager. "Stringent emission legislation is being enacted in all corners of the globe; Multec EFI is one way to achieve these emissions goals."

Delphi developed the system for motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and scooter manufacturers around the world.

Estate sales: Adventure to the past

Rogers, a bargain hunter herself, bought her two-bedroom, two-bath house nine years ago in Shadow Lakes for $61,500. The house overlooks a retention pond that is also a bird sanctuary.

"I had spent a wonderful year when I was in high school with an aunt and uncle who lived in Clearwater," she recalls. "After that I always wanted to live in Florida. I'm just one of those people who loves Florida."

Rogers, who is divorced, lives with her two dogs, Beau, a black lab/Great Dane mix, and Squeaky, a boxer/terrier mix she rescued while volunteering at the Pasco Animal Welfare Society thrift shop in New Port Richey.

"I walk my dogs almost every day in Starkey Park," she says.

Animals and the environment are of great importance to her: She is a supporter of such groups as Pasco Wildlife Inc.

Preparing to move ... again

As it has all week long, the sun lit up the city in all ways brilliant. But for most of the week, there was always something different about the view as it rose towards its highest point of the day. If you were on the Lewvan, and looked to the east, the sight was almost frightening. The city's downtown skyline was shrouded in narrow wisps of rising smoke. These strings of grey and white and dark grey seemed moving ever so painfully into the sky. At times, if you looked to the southeast, there might even be the faded image of a rainbow. And, on the road, a wind carried slithering fingers of loose snow across the pavement, like snakes winding their way across a desert. Everything, it seemed, was shivering.

Late into February, winter hung on, so cruelly. But it did not seem to want to let go.

The changing cycle

India may be the second largest producer of bicycles in the world but precious little has been done to promote the cause of cycling in the country. Shveta Pathak reports that the cycle industry is today churning out beauties that could easily make a style statement but the road ahead is rough for the two-wheeled bikes. And, the status-conscious still refuse to adopt them as a mode of transport.

DO you remember the tinkle of the bell as daakiya Rajesh Khanna delivers the post in the song Daakiya daak laya? Or, the very urbane Aamir Khan making your breath stop for a while as he competes for the famous race in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander? If you do, you mustnt have forgotten the spirit lent to these moments by the good old bicycle.

India is the largest cycle manufacturer in the world after China.
