NGoudjo hopes to cast ring spell on Magic Man
Defending world champion Paulie (Magic Man) Malignaggi might accomplish a lot of things in tonight's world-title bout against Hermann NGoudjo in Atlantic City. He might win a decision. He might even dominate the fight. Perhaps, if he can accumulate enough of his pitty-pat punches, he might score a technical knockout. One thing he will not be able to do, however: He will never wipe the smile off NGoudjo's face. The Cameroon-born, Montreal-based boxer smiled all the way through his bout with Jose Luis Castillo, who hits a lot harder than Malignaggi. He smiled through his fight with Randall Bailey outdoors at the Jarry Tennis Centre, despite heavy rain, hail, lightning and a couple of occasions when he was lucky to survive the round. .
JR East to test electricity generation by train riders
I thought JR was long over this waste of money years ago. If I remember correctly it was for a competition on eco and a little girl drew up this contraption to make human guinea pigs. It used to be something like 1 million people can make a light bulb light up for a few minutes so I guess it is getting a little more efficient. One could imagine the entire station rigged up, but after people start tripping and falling over the unstable and hard to maintenance floor the cost of medical bills will exceed any profit made. .
Dubai Terry Fox Run to be held during 2008 Dubai Shopping Festival
'We are delighted and highly appreciative of the fact that the DSF Office has granted us this official status,' said DTFR Chairperson, Judy Rickatson. 'It will certainly boost awareness of and participation in the Run which takes place on Friday 15th February 2008 at Mamzar Park.' 'Last year was our first time at Al Mamzar and it proved to be a hugely popular venue drawing participants from several Emirates. This in turn boosted the run and it now enjoys the status of being the second biggest Terry Fox Run in the world by participation, and the third biggest in terms of revenue,' she adds. The 2007 Dubai Terry Fox Run drew an estimated 10,500 participants. More significantly, $158,000 was raised for cancer research, Yousif Mubarak, DSF Events, Operations, and Logistics Director said he was delighted that the Dubai Terry Fox Run was under the umbrella of DSF.
Hoffman Will Propose Bill To Shield Counties From RAGBRAI Liability
As the Legislature gets to work, in Des Moines, RAGBRAI officials, county supervisors and bike riders will be watching to see if legislation emerges that could help shape the future of Iowa's great bicycle ride. One western Iowa lawmaker says he'll propose a bill that would provide "immunity" for counties where riders roll. "I think its important we get this immunity for counties," said Rep. Clarence Hoffman, (R) Charter Oak. Hoffman represents the corner of Crawford County where Kirk Ullrich died almost four years ago. He lost control of his bike after it hit a crack in a county road. His widow sued. And, last fall, she settled with Crawford County for $355,000 dollars. County supervisors then passed a resolution banning the annual bicycle ride from its roads. "If we have to fix our roads, and get them into the shape, so that they're gonna be good for bicycles in every situation, then the money for "Time 21" needs to be doubled," Hoffman said.
