| Before RAGBRAI there was the Fort Madison Cycling Club
Dun Auge is a serious bicyclist. He participates in most of the organized rides anywhere within 25 or 30 miles of Fort Madison and in between he can usually be seen pedaling around town solo or with friends.Recently Don loaded his bicycle in the back of his pickup truck and traveled to central Missouri to tour a good part of the Katy Trail State Park, one of the premier bicycling spots in the country. This park is only a few dozen feet wide, but follows the abandoned right-of-way of M-K-T railroad for 225 miles across scenic Missouri.Don did not realize it, but going to Missouri to bicycle he was following a program first established here back in the late 19th century by the 100 members or so of the old Fort Madison Cycling Club.Anyone who owned a "wheel" - as bicycles were called in those days - was considered a person of distinction, for at that time even an ordinary bicycle like the Crescent cost a whopping $45.
Non-Catholics can be saved
Sacred Scripture many times refers to the church as the Body of Christ (Eph 1:22-23; Eph 5:23; Col 1:18; Col 1:24; On the road to Damascus Paul encounters Jesus and Christ says, "Why are you persecuting me?" But in Acts 8:3 it says Saul was ravaging the church. 1 Cor 15:9 Paul writes that he persucted the church. These statements only makes sense if the church is Christ's body. 1 Cor 12:12-28 with verse 27 saying, "Now you are the Body of Christ and individually members of it." Verse 13 reminds us that we become apart of Christ's body through baptism. This is why the Catholic Church teaches that all who are baptized with proper form and proper matter are members of the Body of Christ, the church. You said...Doctrine does not matter. The bible says, " " .
Paul Mullett turns up heat on Christine Nixon
POLICE union boss Paul Mullett has increased the war between he and Christine Nixon, accusing the Chief Commissioner of corrupt behaviour. Sen-Sgt Mullett claimed yesterday to have evidence of Ms Nixon corruptly rewarding several officers after they allegedly helped her in a plot to destabilise the Police Association. He also claimed senior government figures were involved in the same alleged conspiracy, telling the Herald Sun he was prepared to name the police and government officials at a royal commission or similar inquiry. Sen-Sgt Mullett said there was an urgent need for such an inquiry and that the Police Association had compelling evidence gathered over four years to present to it. The Police Association yesterday wrote to Premier John Brumby, the State Opposition and Ms Nixon calling for an independent public inquiry.
Porsche challenges smog tax charge
LONDON Mayor Ken Livingstone will contest luxury car maker Porsche's threatened legal challenge over his plan to tax gas guzzling cars driving in the city centre. In launching its proposed challenge last week, Porsche said the $A53 daily charge was unfair, would not cut emissions of carbon dioxide and would deter businesses from moving to the city. "Porsche's claim - that it is illegal for the Mayor to introduce this policy - is wrong," a mayoral spokeswoman said after Livingstone received a letter from Porsche setting out its proposed legal challenge. "The Greater London Authority Act 1999 gives the Mayor the power to do this. "Porsche has a vested interest in seeking to prevent London government from exercising its powers to improve the environment.

Ottawa moves to emulate U.S. on new fuel mileage standards
That we don't speaks more for the average Canadian than the car companies or our rules. I had 2 Pontiac Fireflies, one was actually a Susuki Forsa and the other was a Susuki Swift. Both were 5 speed, 5 passenger, 3 cylinder, stationwagon types. Each of them got 64 MILES to the GALLON. From 1988 thru to 2000, I car pooled using them (32 miles each way) and made a killing. I totally loved them and was extremely disappointed when Pontiac stoped selling them. Granted, they are the 'SECOND CAR' but they were my main car - the wife didn't like them and drove a much larger vehicle that I didn't like. Blunt's insurance plan suffers setback
Though he promised to work with legislators to retool Insure Missouri, what they pass is likely to be far different from his original blueprint. As a lame duck — he announced last month that he won't seek re-election — Blunt has lost some of his clout. "The governor just took a beating from the House that he couldn't overcome," said Jorgen Schleimeier, a lobbyist whose clients include medical provider groups. Blunt unveiled his program with much fanfare at a community health center in St. Louis in September. Long derided for kicking 100,000 adults off Medicaid in 2005, the governor drew praise from activists who represent low-income Missouri residents. Initially, Blunt's plan would have covered custodial parents below the poverty line — for example, those earning less than $20,650 for a family of four.
