| North Interstate and Greeley intersection sees change after another ...
The second accident in two weeks involving a bicycle and car at the intersection of North Interstate and North Greeley has resulted in prohibiting right turns onto Greeley from North Interstate. Commissioner Sam Adams and the Portland Office of Transportation (PDOT) are closing the right turn following the Nov. 6 incident in which the bicyclist was seriously injured. Crews are setting up barricades and traffic controls to prohibit automobiles from turning right. This closure is indefinite while the Commissioner and PDOT engineers explore other solutions to improve bicycle safety at this intersection. "We're hoping it will only be a matter of days or weeks (the turn is closed down), we don't want to cause any undue inconvenience," said Roland Chlapowski, Adam's Senior Transportation Policy Director.
Clinton lacked coherent game plan for after Super Tuesday
I also believe Obama takes himself a little too seriously and has a difficult time acknowledging his vulnerabilties. I view him as extremly righteous compared to Hillary and if Obama wins the nomination he will internalize these hard hits poorly. .
More snow, skiers and snowmobilers makes for more deaths by avalanche
Forest Service National Avalanche Center in Ogden, Utah, eight deaths this winter were in Washington, five in Colorado, four each in Wyoming and California, three each in Montana and Utah, and one each in North Dakota, New Hampshire, and Wyoming. Nine were snowmobilers, eight skiers, six climbers or hikers, five snowboarders, one snowshoer, and one was shoveling off a roof. Doug Abromeit, director of the National Avalanche Center, has no solid figures on how many people ski and snowmobile in avalanche country, but figures the number is rising, because manufacturers are selling more gear, trailhead parking lots are full, and there are new magazines dedicated to backcountry skiing. So what's driving the boom? "These days you are lucky to get one untracked line at a major ski area," Abromeit said.
Pitching in
On a recent afternoon, two kids played basketball at the eastern end of North Harford Park, off Hamlet Avenue. At the other end, on Laurelton Avenue, two school buses slowed a stop and a dozen kids poured out. They milled around a nearby apartment complex for a while, teasing and chasing each other. Sitting between the two scenes is a pair of vacant baseball fields - or what used to be baseball fields. Or, if Stephen Johnson and Shane Scott are successful in their mission, what will soon be baseball fields again. .
The Friday interview
Beijing last spring I watched landscaping teams watering already well-established trees on the approaches to the "Bird's Nest" stadium. Given that beautification is the last thing on any construction timetable, landscaping is a good indicator of a project's past. Higgins, who oversees a team of 500 in Canary Wharf and a construction staff that will exceed 4,000 people, is determined London's experience will be closer to the Chinese example than the Greek. He is convinced that decisions now will have a fundamental impact on the cost and delivery. "There has been a huge debate about cost, but cost is always an outcome," he says. "Much of it becomes inevitable from decisions you make early on in a project. Hitting the milestones on planning, on cost-planning, start date on site, those are the biggest ways of 'de-risking' the project.

U.Mass students and state officials react to violence
A front-page Boston Globe article on Thursday, Feb. 21 highlighted the "grim police blotter" over the past three weeks, bringing national attention to the issue. However, some students don't feel that the recent string of violent incidents paints an accurate picture of the University climate. "From my personal experience, I've never felt scared. I've walked around campus at midnight before," said Dhara Marek, a senior and a resident assistant in Southwest. "I would say UMass is a safe campus and that security and police do a good job of making students feel comfortable." Still, incidents like this make her "a little nervous." "These incidents happening together in a very close time is definitely scary," she said. Freshman Yair Schatz, who lives in Van Meter dorm in Central residential area, said he's not worried.
